When I first wrote about Traci Baker and her #getphilvotedin campaign back in 2023, the response from almost everyone who read it was the same: “Wait, he’s not already in?!”
Now, in April 2026, Phil Collins has been announced as a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2026, inducted as a solo artist. The announcement was made on April 13 during a special Rock Hall–themed episode of American Idol, with Lionel Richie and Ryan Seacrest doing the honours. The induction ceremony will take place on November 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
He did it. Traci and everyone who supported the campaign, did it.
A Campaign Born from Grief and Love
For those who missed the original post, here’s the quick version: Traci Baker is a lifelong Phil Collins and Genesis fan who lost her husband to colon cancer in 2021. She channelled her grief into music, attending 11 shows on The Last Domino? Tour, and in the process made lifelong friends, became a familiar face in the front row, and on the final night of the final Genesis show ever at London’s O2 Arena on March 26, 2022, caught Phil’s eye with a handmade sign and received the red tambourine he had used throughout the entire tour.
That tambourine now sits carefully displayed, guarded by Musical Brick’s own 1982 Phil Mini-figurine (shirtless, tambourine in hand, as it should be).
But Traci didn’t stop there. Energised by that experience and moved by the outpouring of love she witnessed from fans around the world, she launched the #getphilvotedin campaign: a multi-platform effort with a website, podcast, petition, YouTube channel, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, all dedicated to making the case that Phil Collins’ solo career was Hall of Fame–worthy, independent of his Genesis induction in 2010.
The Case Was Never in Doubt
The numbers alone told a compelling story. Phil Collins is one of only three artists in history to have sold more than 100 million records both as a solo artist and as part of a band, the other two being Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson. He was the top-selling male artist for much of the 1980s, and his debut solo album Face Value (1981) is widely regarded as a landmark record that redefined the sound of pop-rock drumming.
Despite all of this, he had waited. The media pummelling of the 1990s, a long personal withdrawal from the spotlight, and the complicated legacy of massive commercial success (which the rock world sometimes penalises rather than rewards) may have contributed to the oversight. Traci believed it was simply his time, and she was right.
Three Years of #GetPhilVotedIn
From 2022 through 2026, Traci ran the campaign with consistency, professionalism, and heart. She produced podcast episodes with people who knew Phil’s world closely, including bassist Leland Sklar and Lamont Van Hook, crafted “Did You Know” articles highlighting overlooked chapters of his career, and kept the petition active and growing. I spoke with Traci in 2024, and her dedication to doing things properly, in a way that would hold up to scrutiny from anyone on the Rock Hall nominating committee, was clear.
On April 18, 2026, just five days after the announcement, Traci posted simply: “We got Phil Collins in The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (as a solo artist)!”
That sentence deserved its exclamation mark.
What Musical Brick Has Always Known
This site exists at the intersection of music history and the joy of celebrating artists who shaped the soundtrack of our lives. Phil Collins has been part of Musical Brick’s DNA from the beginning, from the 1975 Phil (drumsticks in hand) to the 1982 Phil (shirtless, tambourine-wielding, now legendary guardian of a piece of music history).
The 2026 Rock Hall class is genuinely remarkable: Phil Collins, Oasis, Sade, Iron Maiden, Billy Idol, Wu-Tang Clan, Joy Division/New Order, and the late Luther Vandross. It’s a class that spans genres, generations, and continents, and Phil Collins belongs at the top of it.
To Traci Baker
There’s a version of this story that could have stayed small: a grieving widow, a tambourine, a campaign that faded after a year. Instead, Traci built something real, something that lasted, something that mattered.
Somewhere in the back of her mind, Traci hoped Phil was watching from the sidelines and that the campaign was giving him something to look forward to too.
We’d like to think it did.
Congratulations, Traci. Congratulations, Phil. #GetPhilVotedIn.
